kallbadan.gifTringa is the ornithological society for the Uusimaa province in southern Finland. With its over 2000 members, Tringa is the largest member of BirdLife Finland. The society has meetings once a month, normally on the first Thursday of the month. The program is usually a presentation related to birds, e.g. birding trips, bird research, conservation etc. Also, a competition in bird identification is held once a year. We mainly concentrate on basic free time leisure birding and local conservation work. We also have some research and bird monitoring activities that are mainly done at the Bird Observatory in Hanko peninsula. Another research project aims to document the ongoing urbanization of the eagle owl (Bubo Bubo) in downtown Helsinki

Members of Tringa are automatically members of BirdLife Suomi: Membership includes for instance:

  • Societys own publication: Tringa (4 numbers a year)
  • The information magazine of BirdLife Suomi: Tiira (4 numbers a year)
  • Possibility to borrow society´s spottingscopes (3)

The fees for 2009 are 

  • Normal member: 32 euros
  • Student/junior member: 20 euros
  • Family member (of a member): 7 euros
  • Senior support member: 42 euros
  • Support or company member: 90 euros

Birding in Tringa area 

We organize guided birding trips to the best birding sites in Uusimaa. Our trips are mainly conducted in Finnish but the guides usually also speak English. The current program can be found in our event calendar. The trips are mainly meant for members of Tringa, but to most trips also non-members are warmly welcome.
